Welcome to WEB 2.0 the unchartered waters of new age web
applications
People started moving from Desk Top applications to HTML based web
applications for global reach over the internet and over the last
decade these applications have had a phenomenal growth despite their
limitations. They lack some of the important features that normal
desktop application can provide such as keyboard support, single
page interface, resizeable windows, menu navigation and others. One
of the main issues that frustrates the user is to request the server
for the entire web page when only some part of the page is to be
refreshed. Also it is the common experience that the user has to
click thru multiple pages to complete an application which results
in several round trips of data transfer to and from the server. This
inferior user experience resulted in driving away customers from
completing their online transactions and in turn reduction in
revenue. This also puts a lot of load on the web server causing over
all performance degradation.
Over the last one year, a new wave of applications called 'Rich
Internet Applications'(RIAs)
have which are basically web based applications like any other HTML
based web application but they also have all the nice to have
features of a standard desktop application. These applications will
have intuitive user interface within a single page and support for
localized refresh functionality. In essence RIAs enable rich user
experience while retaining the 'Global Reach' of web applications,
provide a rich functionality of desktop applications too.
There are a number of ways in which 'Rich Internet Applications'
(RIA)
can be developed. The most prominent among them are the following
1. Flash Based Rich Internet Applications
These web applications need a flash player plug-in in order them to
run in browsers. The response data coming from the servers will be
converted into flash format which will be understood by the flash
player plug-in inside the browser. These applications can be built
on top of any standard J2EE based frameworks and almost all the
application servers such as BEA Web logic, IBM Web sphere and other
J2EE servers.
2. AJAX Based Rich Internet Applications
Ajax, shorthand for Asynchronous JavaScript and XML, is a Web
development technique for creating interactive web applications. The
intent is to make web pages feel more responsive by exchanging small
amounts of data with the server behind the scenes, so that the
entire web page does not have to be reloaded each time the user
makes a change. In this approach, browsers do not need any plug-in
to transform the data.
At Daisy, we are participating in this WEB 2.0 revolution and we can
proudly say that we are in the fore front of designing and
developing these Rich Internet Applications. At Daisy, we have the
expertise to develop these RIAs which will transform the user
experience to new levels. We are doing a pioneering work in
designing these RIAs in both flash based as well as AJAX based
approaches.
Please feel free to contact Daisy if you have any questions about
these new technologies.
